Pilot Training
At Newcastle Airfield we provide training for fixed wing microlight and group A aircraft. Our dedicated instructors and staff will help you achieve your ambition of becoming a pilot by providing you with the highest quality training. Our instructors will teach you to the required syllabus while also making the experience an enjoyable one that you won't forget.
EASA PPL (Private Pilots License)
The EASA PPL license is designed as a stepping stone for people who wish to pursue aviation as a career. The license allows you to continue your training towards a commercial pilots license following completion.

Requirements

Before undergoing any training, we highly recommend that you undergo the Class 2 medical to make sure that you are fit to fly and hold a license. A minimum of level 4 English is also required.

To complete your training to obtain a PPL license:
  • 100 Hours of ground school training
  • 45 Hours minimum of flight training (35 Hours dual / 10 Hours solo)
  • 5 Hours instrument training
  • A solo cross country flight of 150nm stopping at two different airports
  • Minimum age of 15 to begin training
EASA Night Rating
Want to take your flying to another level? Get your night rating and fly in the dark! This course will improve your piloting skills and is also a requirement if you are considering going on to become a commercial pilot.

Requirements

A valid EASA LAPL/PPL license is required as this is only a rating and not a full license
  • 4 Hours dual flight instruction with one cross country flight
  • 1 Hour of solo flying with 5 takeoffs/landings
At the end of your training, the instructor will sign you off and you will then submit your license and paperwork to the IAA.
Microlight (3 Axis)
Microlights are the cheapest form of flying. This is ideal if you wish to fly locally in Ireland as a hobby. Microlights are designed to run on petrol making the costs more friendly for hobby flying. Microlights are determined by their max takeoff weight. In Ireland, a microlight can weigh a max of 450KG

Requirements

Before undergoing any training, we highly recommend that you undergo the Class 2 medical examination to make sure that you are fit to fly and hold a license.

To complete your training to obtain a microlight pilot license:
  • 100 Hours of ground school training
  • 30 Hours minimum of flight training (20 Hours dual minimum / 10 Hours solo minimum)
  • A solo cross country flight of 150KM
  • Minimum age of 15 to begin training
